On July 19, 2018, a focus group of 25 leaders of the Substance Abuse Disorder (SUD) prevention, treatment and recovery support field in this part of the state gathered for a brainstorming and planning session. The goals coming out of the meeting were to:
1) Create a Western Carolina Regional Recovery Alliance, including the following counties of NC: Burke, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Macon, Graham, Swain, Jackson, Haywood, Transvanial, Henderson, Buncombe, Madison, Polk, Rutherford, McDowell, Yancey and Mitchell.
2) Create a list of representatives in the SUD field (Including prevention specialists, educators, high school and collegiate counselors and recovery programs, law enforcement and drug court professionals, treatment providers, recovery communities, professional monitoring organizations, and others). This list currently includes 215 individuals.
3) Host annual Summits to bring leadership together to collaborate on projects throughout the year. The first of these will be on November 9, 2018
