I am Clinical Neuropsychologist working with the Jacksonville Police Department. I work with the Officers addressing the mental health and substance abuse problems within the City and work with the Department in identifying creative solutions to chronic and acute situations faced by law enforcement daily. Such challenges are homelessness, substance abuse, mental illness, dementia, displaced individuals, sexual assault and trauma, PTSD, etc. Together, we create solutions to help our citizens find the right resources to address the identified problem versus using the hospital and the jail as the answer. Additionally, I work with the officers and other employees to address secondary trauma and burnout in an effort to protect them from becoming victim to the same stress and problems they are out fighting every shift. I am also responsible for assisting in creating policy, educating our officers on policies, teaching CIT and Mental Health first Aid, and other important training venues needed to help our officers be armed with words nit just physical weapons. Additionally, I own my own company that currently provides behavioral health services to 4 hospitals on the east coast of NC. Our average length of stay for behavioral health patient is less than 20 hours per patient and we link them to appropriate resources in the community.
